Dr. Qibin Zhang has received an NIH R01 grant, titled “Protein Markers to Islet Autoimmunity and T1D Progression”, from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). Currently, Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) affects approximately 1.4 million people in the U.S. The proposed research will identify novel protein markers that can predict T1D and gain further insight into the pathogenesis of this disease. Dr. Zhang is Associate Professor in the in the UNCG Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, participating scientist in the Medicinal Chemistry Collaborative, and Co-Director of the Center for Translational Biomedical Research.
